God Profile: The Horned One

Also called: Cerrnnunos, Herne, Pan

Attributes: Horn crown, mature male, usually depicted naked or in leather armor or religious robes, usually with spear in hand, depicted in or around woods or forest.

-The Horned One is a wild god, god of the hunt, king of all the wild and is also seen as a dark god, one that teaches the darker parts of nature and magick. However do not be fooled The Horned One is tough and strong but He is also gentle and kind, a father figure god. One that teaches through lessons and one that asks us to act through our spirituality rather than contemplate. With spear in hand He is a warrior god, defending not only nature but all Children of Creation to whom call out for His help. Cosmically He is the dark part of the divine masculine seen as the father, the warrior and the sage. The Horned One demands us to sacrifice who we are for who we want to be. He demands evolution through action. His elements are Earth and Fire. He is often seen in Wicca as the consort to the Moon Goddess.

Invocation to Lord Hermes

Here is an invocation I wrote myself to my patron, Lord Hermes also called Mercury:

image from www.gaiaonline.com

"Hail Lord Hermes, Gracious God of Magick, Market and Communication. Hail be to the Clever One, Whose keen mind can outwit man and god alike, Whose skill of thieving is but a testament to His brilliance. The Guide of Dead Souls, with compassion greater than any other God. Whose speed of travel is as fast as thought, Whose beauty has caught the love and grace of Aphrodite. Bless all that study Your ways my Lord Hermes, may all witches, magicians, priests, priestesses and wizards alike revel in Your secrets and be made masters of their craft and knowledge. Bless those that seek Your wisdom, O' Great One! O' Enchanted One! Guide us through our lives and aid us in our magick. Beatus Esse!"

Wiccan Inspiration: Work Prayer

“My Lord and Lady, Grant me the strength and energy I need to fulfill my responsibilities at work with passion and honor. Let me be a shining example to others and may my service be as though I am serving you my Lord and Lady. So mote it be!” — Work Prayer (I say every time I am about to start my shift)

Wiccan Inspiration: We Don't Worship

“As Wiccans, we do not worship Deity. We love them, we honor and respect them, we pray to them and ask for their help as needed. Deity does not need or want our worship.”— Correllian teachings

The Horned God

I am the strength of the righteous, who gives the gift of strength unto the heart of men who would be righteous. But know that unlike the Goddess I do demand sacrifice, for behold, the price of freedom is often high and yours was purchased by the sacrifices of those who came before you. Hear the words of our forgotten Father, he who stands against injustice and beckons men to come forth into his service. I call upon your soul to rise and come unto Me. For I am the soul of nature that preserves and protects life in this Universe. Let my worship be in the hearts of the just, for behold all acts of justice are my rituals.” — Charge of the God (the Horned One; The Father)

Self = All

As well as cultivating a healthy relation with yourself and your power, you must cultivate a healthy relation with others and their powers. You would be surprised as to how much we all influence each other even in the most seemingly arbitrary ways. Which brings me to an important Occult law:

Self = All

(image borrowed from: http://brandonsutton.com/)

You are beautiful just for being you, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Be good to yourself and compassion for others will grow. Take care of Self and see Self everywhere.

We should be collective individuals instead of being individually collected. Stand for others, yes, but stand for you first. You are what is in your life, whatever takes place in your daily trials takes place within you and becomes a part of you. Once you start cultivating a love of Self, you begin to understand pain, strife and what it takes to become happy. You then understand struggle and will see that same struggle in others who share this life all around you…and you will love them and help them, because in doing so you are loving and helping yourself.

The Magickal List of Accomplishments

“Decide what you want and then let the universe open doors for you.”

Now the only challenge is deciding what you want. What do you really want out of life? What is it that you want to accomplish knowing you have limited time in this life? If you’re anything like me you know that there is an endless list of accomplishments you want to fulfill before your time is up in this life. So much can be explored, learned about and understood. So much can be experienced, attained and mastered, but where to start? How do you begin? Good question! There really is no wrong answer here but a good place to start; however is to make a list. A list of things you need and want to accomplish, a sort of bucket list if you will. This should be written down with careful thought and it should be written clearly on good paper, maybe even in a favorite journal, or on your computer, either way its best to make your ideas apparent through the list. Start with 10 goals and accomplishments then add to it as you go. But once your first draft is finished begin taking the steps to accomplish each line of your list. Start with the easier ones of course but never back down until you are able to cross off each line of your list.

(Thoth, Egyptian god of magick and Scribe of the Gods)

Once you begin you will be amazed at how the universe will respond to your intention and directed will. This is the main purpose of your list; a focal point for your will and intent. It’s a kind of spell. If you want you can bless your list with a ritual, energizing the list to set into motion the accomplishments listed before you. Keep the list in a safe place, perhaps in a special spot on your altar. Pull it out at least once every few days and go over each line, it helps to say each line out loud. When you read the lines, visualize each one coming true. “See” the lines on your list manifesting in your life. When you’ve finished and you’re not currently working on anything on your list, pick one line and dedicate some time to accomplish this goal. Make a real effort with each line and the universe will respond accordingly.

The Coming Beltane Sabbat * Beltane Fires of Passion

A wonderful article I think will summerize the coming Beltane Sabbat!: Beltane Fires * Wicca-Spirituality.com/Silver Chalice E-Zine

I will be posting the Outline of the Beltane Ritual the day before on the 29th, that I will be performing April 30th at sundown (the traditional start of Beltane) . It will be simple, but powerful and hopefully passionate like the coming Sabbat. To me Beltane is like Wiccan Valentine's Day, it's a time (if you are so blessed) to pay special attention to your lover or mate, if you are solo at this time then pay special attention to your close friends and family or even pay special attention to yourself, give yourself something nice; give it to your Higher-self during ritual. There is lots to be not only be passionate about but thankful for and these I feel are the key celebration points for Beltane; passion, pleasure and being thankful. This being the case, not only should we celebrate the Union of the Goddess and the God but we should be thankful for all that we are blessed with because of that Union. We should also be thankful for the Unions we have here on the physical plane Unions with: friends, family, lovers, animals, plants, places, Self, and careers. Whatever brings you pleasure take joy in it and be thankful for it, for doing so is a holy act:

"ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in Her praise. For Hers is the ecstasy of the spirit, and Hers also is joy on earth; for Her law is love unto all beings. Keep pure your highest ideal; strive ever towards it; let naught stop you or turn you aside. For Hers is the secret door which opens upon the land of youth and Hers is the cup of wine of life, and the cauldron of Cerridwen, which is the Holy Grail of immortality. She is the gracious goddess, who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man. Upon earth, She gave the knowledge of the spirit eternal; and beyond death, She gives peace and freedom, and reunion with those who have gone before. Nor does She demand sacrifice, for behold, She is the mother of all living, and Her love is poured out upon the earth." ---- Charge of The Goddess

The Charge of the Goddess by D. Valiente

The Charge of the Goddess

By: D. Valiente

"Whenever ye have need of any thing, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, then shall ye assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of She, who is Queen of all witches. There shall ye assemble, ye who are fain to learn all sorcery, yet have not won its deepest secrets; to these will She teach things that are yet unknown. And ye shall be free from slavery; and as a sign that ye be really free, ye shall be naked in your rites; and ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in Her praise. Nor does She demand sacrifice, for behold, She is the mother of all living, and Her love is poured out upon the earth.

She who is the beauty of the green earth, and the white moon among the stars, and the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the heart of man, calls unto thy soul. Arise, and come unto Her. For She is the soul of nature, who gives life to the universe. from Her all things proceed, and unto Her all things must return; and before Her face, beloved of gods and men, let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite. Let Her worship be within the heart that rejoiceth; for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are Her rituals. And therefore let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you. And thou who thinkest to seek Her, know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not unless thou knowest the mystery; that if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee, then thou wilt never find it without thee. For behold, She has been with thee from the beginning; and She is that which is attained at the end of desire."

T.LH: The Charge of the Goddess is a sacred text of the Wiccan religion and is a central part to many of our sacred points as a Mystery Tradition. Perhaps the most quoted of the Wiccan Texts the Charge of the Goddess contains some famous ideas in the Wiccan Religion including acts of love and pleasure as a form of worship for the Goddess, for all acts of love are Hers. Also there is a warning that those who seek the Goddess (and therefore the Occult mysteries) not within themselves then they will not find Her (or the power) with out. It is a warning against just being whats called an "armchair wiccan" or a Wiccan that claims the to the path but does not actually have experiance in its practices. Wicca is an experiential religion meaning that one has to participate in it's teachings in order to gain the understanding and insight that Wicca offers. The Charge of the Goddess has been rewritten many times and has many different authors, this I feel is the best edition because it covers all the points I find important to our Tradition and Religion as a whole.

The Wiccan "Beliefs" of Tytus Lionheart: Part 1

The Goddess and the God, Our Lord and Lady
·         Pray, meditate and connect with these aspects of the Great Spirit, or Universe (nature). It is natural to prefer one over the other but be sure to seek unity and understanding of both to be truly balanced and to attain true power.
·         Pray to the Lord and Lady with elaborate ritual or a simple prayer with energy and visualization; both have great values in your connection with the Goddess and the God. Do one or the other, but it is important to DO IT!
·         All of life and creation and all those beings apart of creation are children to the Lord and Lady, having the same worth and divine spark within each unique nature. The Goddess is our Soul, The God is the vessel (body), this is true of all Creation’s beings. Therefore we should be conscious of treating ourselves and all other beings in this realm with compassion and respect.
--- It is necessary to note that though compassion and respect should be the behavior of all Creation’s beings, it is not. Therefore respect and show compassion to yourself and those that deserve it first (those that treat you with the same compassion and respect). But to love Nature and all its positive and negative aspects is to show acceptance; which leads to power.
·         The Goddess and the God love you, unconditionally.
Summerland and Reincarnation
·         When a being of Creation dies, the soul rests in Summerland to process it’s experience and grow closer to it’s evolution back into the Goddess, or what is known as Divine Union. A soul is a part of  the Goddess and the Goddess is a part of the soul.
·         The soul will reincarnate into another realm of existence and may incarnate with people or beings we’ve known in other lives. We may incarnate into this realm again for many years or we may incarnate into a completely different realm of experience. It is all a part of each souls individual experience and growth.
·         Communication with the dead souls as we know them is possible, but must be done only to seek guidance or information to continue our growth and not to satisfy ego or as a way to withdraw from your responsibilities in this life.
·         Death is a part of this realm and can teach us if we are accepting to its lessons and do not fear or hide from it.
Magick
·         Magick is a practice and art form to cause change in accordance to Will. The “Will”  is willpower or desire. Magick is a gift from the Lord and Lady to find power in all realms.
·         Prayer is a form of magick called “Petition Magick” or “Divine Energy”.
·         “Magick shall not be used to bring harm, injure or control others. But if the need arises, Magick shall be used to protect your life or the lives of others.”—Scott Cunningham, “Living Wicca” This is a basic guideline for magickal ethics. It is the code of the Wiccan but its values hold different levels of constraint or merit within other magickal practitioners.
·         “Magick is used as need dictates.”--- Scott Cunningham, “Living Wicca” Good way to get positive results is not to abuse magick or use it impulsively.
·         “Use not magick for prideful gain, for doing so cheapens the mysteries of Wicca and magick.”--- Scott Cunningham, “Living Wicca”
·         Magick can be used for personal gain as long as attention is put into harming none from the outcome (this includes yourself).
·         Magick is a tool to help enrich our lives so we may grow and live a happy life. It can also teach and guide us towards strength and knowledge. Magick is a power that harmonizes our self with the Universe and creation. Through it we find ourselves, and who we truly are. Magick is transformation.
